Can I hang this from a can light in the ceiling and use that as a lighting option? How much heat can they withstand.

Answer:
The beehive has a top opening of about 4 inches and a bottom opening of nearly 1 inch. The metal wire frame does cross the openings. If you are able to maneuver the bulb around the expander then that may be of use. The lanterns have been tested with 60 watt bulbs, as long as the bulb is not directly touching the paper then that will be fine.
