What is a diameter for the open top? Can I use this to cover the light bulbs which is a globe light that has 2 1/2 inch diameter? Please see the image attached. What type of lantern would you recommend, I'm in the budget?

Thank you for your inquiry. The 8" lanterns have an approximate measurement of: (top opening) 3 and 1/4 inch, (bottom opening) 2 and 3/4 inch. There is also a metal wire expander that crosses both openings and is about 1/16th of inch thick.
